With Google Experimental Search, you are in control of how the search results appear in the search results page. Are you sick of your competitors ranking above you or even on the same page? How would you like to derank them, or completely remove them all together? What about your best friend who has the sad story about how his blog never ranks well in Google? You can help change that for him.

Over the next few weeks, Google is running an experiment with the aim of improving the quality of their search results for end users. How this is being done involves your participation.

When you are logged into iGoogle, you may have noticed that Google has added an “Arrow Up” box, an “Arrow Down” box, and a “X” box. These three buttons gives you the ability to customize the listings found on a search results page how you see fit. If you don’t think the number one listing should be number one, you can knock it down to the number you feel is appropriate. Likewise, you can bring up lower ranking results to the top. Lastly, you can completely remove listings if you desire to.

While I mentioned that this is currently in an experimental stage. I predict that Google will soon roll out a permanent system like this in the near future. I believe also that what you do will have an influence on the overall (un-logged in) natural results in their search engine.

Google struggles with maintaining quality. Google constantly has to thwart having their system gamed with people purchasing backlinks and manulipulating the limitations within their system. In many ways, turning to, and placing value in natural human behavior is the key to success. With that said though, I believe that Google has been doing some forms of this already.

When you are logged into iGoogle and perform a search for something, your search results can be different from others based off your web history. This has currently been in effect for many months now. Virtually, Google wants to build onto their database and expand their system to become something that truly presents quality.

I am unsure whether your actions performed during the three week experiment will truly have any global effect on the results in public view; but I can say that if this system does indeed roll out permanently, what you do will have an effect on how people rank in Google.

I believe also, just like with any system in computers, this new ranking system can be gamed. I think formally Google has a weakness in being gamed because their system is based off computer generated rules. With the new system that could be potentially added onto of their existing system, gaming Google takes on a new level of thinking. Rather than asking you friends for Digg votes, now you may find yourself asking friends for “SERP Ups!”

Whether it’s a home based business offer to teach you how to make money online, or a package promising you to glory of government grants… every network seems to be loaded up with low cost, free trial or free shipping offers that only require the user to submit a credit card, for you to get your massive $30+ commission. Good for you, usually bad for the consumer…  who will then get auto-billed if they don’t cancel or return their unwanted service/product.

Crush / SMS Cell Offers
Let’s not forget about social marketing and how to take advantage of it. We all love those annoying flashing banners that say “You have 1 message”. Sure, we as marketers aren’t stupid enough to click them.. but you know they are working, as they are still everyone. Instead of signing up for a web site, the new hot trend is for people to input their cell phone to get dating tips, celebrity gossip or even funny jokes on their phone, while getting billed $10-$20 a month. While the offers may be less advertised in the US now, they are super hot across all foreign advertising networks.

WuYi Weight Loss
The weight loss craze that started it all… and also one of the longest sales pages around, proving they work! When Wu-Yi first came out, commissions were in the high $20s to lower $30 range. Now with everyone in the world having promoted this offer, payments are all the way up to $40 per signup, just for a free trial! ($40 CPA offered at Convert2Media)

Acai Berry
After the WuYi / Green Tea craze… someone had the brilliant idea to add Acai Berry into the mix. With possibly even more promotion than WuYi Tea, Acai seems to be every where. Just search any of the main search engines for terms on “acai berry” or “weight loss” and you will see fake testimonial pages every where promoting these products.

All of these offers were super hot and converting like crazy when they first came out, and still are. The big question is… what’s next?

ShoeMoney Tools New Keyword Tracking Tool

(This post is a continuation of yesterdays post Do You Already Assume How the Conversation Went?)

Can you really answer the question of “What This is All For” in your current situation/state of mind?

If you are not able to be honest with others (including yourself), if you have no time, if you are unhealthy, stressed out or any number of other things…. can you really answer that question?

For the past 6 months I have had what appears to be an enemy attacking me. I do not care if you are a Christian (I am and darn proud of it), believer in some other higher power or an atheist… there are times when you feel like everything seems to be going wrong and it appears like someone is out to get you. It seemed that everything that I had my hands in was being ripped apart and attacked.

I remember sitting in my office with my elbows on my knees and my head in my hands just feeling overwhelmed. Every aspect of my life was under attack… and I was looking for someone to blame. It was not until 3 weeks after when I was talking about it with two very close friends that I suddenly realized what happened.

I WAS THE BLAME!

You see I have always been a big believer in the fact that in order to be successful you had to be accountable for your actions… but I was not practicing what I was preaching. I have always set goals, I have always planned accordingly but when the rubber finally hit the road I realized that I was a complete hypocrite. Now do not get me wrong, 80% of what i was doing was good… I was setting goals, I was achieving targets and I was progressing… but then comes that ole 80/20 rule again.

The 20% that I was not doing right… that was the most important part that I needed to be focusing on first!

So what did I do?

I sat down and tried to write out exactly what I was doing this all for… but I could NOT answer it. My first attempt was so fake it made me sick and that was when I realized that I was at fault. The problem was because of all of my current emotions, paradigms, internal and external stresses I was not able to actually even write that out. I was driven by emotion… I was frustrated with employees, with family members and with people I volunteered with… and all of this frustration was causing me a lot of anger and contempt.

SLAP!!!

I realized that I suddenly was slapped in the face and had to give my head a shake and stop everything. If I continued down that path I was traveling, I was going to fail!

Once again I picked up my pen and this time instead of writing out what it was I was doing this for, I started writing down all the things that were causing me frustration and stress. I wrote everything down… I did not care how immature it sounded, if it caused me any stress I wrote it down.

I then went through the list and categorized them into controllable and uncontrollable. What that means is the things that I have the power to control and the things that I do not have the power to control. To my complete surprise I had almost every single item in my list under the controllable category.

SLAP!!!

Talk about another slap in the face. I had been telling myself lies for so long and these lies were all about how I could not control certain things and I would just deal with them by suppressing them. I would constantly have conversations in my head and assume how the outcome would be and therefore act according to my assumptions… this HAD TO STOP!

My 4 Week Plan…

That was when I decided on a new goal… a goal that was set for 4 weeks and I created a plan on how to achieve that goal. I like working in weeks because it allows me to organize my schedule to get into a pattern (habit) in order to achieve goals. To do this I also knew I had to eliminate as much of my list of stress and frustration as possible… I needed to have a clear head…

I COULD NOT ACT ON IMPULSE OR EMOTION

So I started a mind map… just with a pad and paper to get one started right away and I tried to organize and prioritize how I could do this… and what I came up for myself was….

• Time: I needed to give myself as much time as I could to focus on the right things, needed to eliminate activities that were time suckers or may even seem important but distracted me from achieving this goal.
• Health: I needed to eat better, sleep better and exercise more so I could feel better and be more focused… but I needed time to do that.
• Clutter: I needed to organize myself better and delegate better (ties into “Time” but for me I made this a separate category).
• Family & Friends: I needed to make room for the people that I love first and foremost.

Tomorrow I am going to share with you the actual plan that I created and the details of it. This plan is my plan… but I HIGHLY recommend you heed my advice here and figure this out and make a plan for yourself before life starts slapping you in the face.
